10 Tasty Wine Cocktails for Every Occasion

I don’t know about you, but wine is definitely my go to drink. It’s tasty, there’s lots of varieties, and it’s good for you- studies show that having a glass a day can reduce your chances of developing heart disease. It’s a win-win!

However, sometimes I crave the occasional cocktail. So why not combine the two and make a cocktail using wine? Mix up your nightcap with one of these delicious recipes below!

Using Red Wine

1. Sangria

Make this if you want: to feel like you’re on vacation in Spain (and not in the middle of a pandemic).

  • 1 orange
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 bottle dry red wine, chilled
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur

Cut the orange, apple and lemon into small chunks. Combine the fruit, sugar, wine, brandy and orange liqueur into a large pitcher.

Allow to set in the fridge for 1-4 hours. Serve and enjoy!

2. New York Sour

Make this if you want: to feel fancy.

  • 4 tbsp bourbon whiskey
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup
  • 2 tbsp dry red wine
  • Handful of ice

Add the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake until the mixture is cold. Pour into glass.

In order to add a layer of wine, pour the wine over the back of a spoon very slowly.

3. Mulled Wine

Make this if you want: to be reminded of the holidays.

  • 1 bottle of dry red wine
  • 1 orange
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons of your preferred sweetener

Combine wine, orange (sliced into rounds), cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise and sweetener to a large saucepan. For an extra kick, add 1/4 cup brandy! Stir.

Cook on medium-high heat until it reaches a simmer (but don’t let it come to a boil!). Reduce heat and cover saucepan, allowing the mulled wine to simmer for anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours.

Strain and serve in a heatproof mug!

Using White Wine
